This week we have had lots of opportunities to develop our speaking and listening skills by practising the Christmas play. We are really good at singing the songs now. Ask your child what they do in the play and if they have any lines.
We have also read the story of The Billy Goats Gruff. We thought about the Trolls bridge and how much weight it would hold. This led us to dicuss weight and the language associated with it, such as heavier and lighter. We have read a range of stories featuring goats and trolls!
Also this week we have done a lot of work in Maths using the Numicon. This will really become a strength and help us throughout school.
Zak was pretending to be the teacher and asking the children to identify different pieces of Numicon!
Thomas was reading the story of the Billy Goats Gruff and looking under the flaps. He tried to guess what was underneath.

Goldilocks.
This week has been a fantastic week in Reception. We have been concentrating on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Alll of the children know the story really well and can join in with parts. This has meant that they could act out the story for a puppet show. We also turned the home corner into the Three Bear's house. The children made a list of everything we would need to do this and had lots of fun in our bear ears acting out the story. We also made some porridge and tried both a sweet and an original version, discussing how to be safe when cooking and looking at how the porridge changed.
The children have also made loads of pictures and books telling the story. There are some fabulous words and sentences up around the classroom. Some children even collaged a bear mask to wear.

The Lady from Hedgehog Care came to look at it.
She checked to see if it was hurt. Miss McVeigh carrying "Wilma" to the door.
We are now waiting to hear how Wilma is getting on.

This week our story of the week has been Little Red Riding Hood. We have really enjoyed this story and can nearly all retell it to our friends. In P.E. we were trying to move around the room and hold positions as characters from the story. We pretended to be Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf and Grandma! Also this week we made Big, Bad Wolf masks and used these to role play the story. We also learned to play What time is it Mr Wolf? This was a lot of fun and all of the children had a great time.

The Hedgehog!
Today a hedgehog tried to come into our class! When we opened the doors to go outside the small, prickly animal was waiting in the doorway. Mrs Batty put the hedgehog into a box and some of the children gathered leaves and twigs for it. After school Miss McVeigh called the people at 'Hedghog Care' to come and check the hedgehog. I gave the hedgehog some food and water while we waited for a lady called Vicky to arrive. When Vicky arrived she checked the hedgehog for injuries and said he was healthy, but needed fattening up for winter. She has taken the hedgehog now named 'Wilma' to the centre to be looked after for winter and she says that she will let us know how Wilma gets on.
There will be pictures to follow soon.
