First week in December

Well the children are all really excited already for Christmas. We have turned the role=play area into a workshop for Santa. We have dressing up clothes, tools for building toys, labels and wrapping paper, naughty and nice lists and all sorts of exciting things. The children all enjoyed decorating the tree and opening the advent calendar.

We have spent a lot of time time this week learning the real meaning of Christmas and listening to the Nativity story. We are also making Chrismon decorations for the School Christmas tree this week which are different religious symbols, made of white and gold.

Reception Fun

We have been really busy this week and lots of funny things have happened. The children have been retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs and acting it out using the puppets and puppet show. All of the children have had a go at writing independently in their independent writing books and the results were amazing. The children are definitely growing in confidence with their ability to write and make marks.

1st of October

This week the children have really enjoyed using the pipes and tubes to make water slides for the plastic people. They have poured the water really carefully to watch the people wash down.

It was really exciting when we found a toad on the playground this week and the children all looked at it really closely. We discussed why and where we should release the toad for it to survive. The children enjoyed making wet, dark place for it as suggestions.

Pictures will follow shortly.

New Year, New Reception Class!

It has been fantastic to welcome all of the new children into Reception Class. They have all settled in really well. Things have been going so well that we have started to go out onto the big playground for a playtime with Key Stage One on a morning. Also this week we have started Read, Write Inc sessions. We have started with the basic sounds this week so that we can find out what differing needs we have in our phonic learning. We will be whizzing through the alphabet, learning a sound a day. Today we looked at the letter 'M'and what sound it makes, which words start with it and how to write it correctly. Some children had a lovely time writing it in chalk on the playground.

Outdoor fun!

In Recpetion this week we have spent a lot of time outdoors as you can imagine! We have really been enjoying our outdoor area and all the fun that we can have. The children have used their imagination to build tracks and roads for the bikes and scooters. Also they have built assault courses and investigates water tracks. There will be photos to follow!

Also please can I ask for any old kitchen utensils as we are making a mud- kitchen. We will need pots and pans, baking trays and spoons etc. These items do not have to be new or in excellent condition as they are for outdoors.

Thank you to all of the adults who attended Parents Evening as it was lovely to tell you how well your children are doing and to hear from the people who know them best!

Strange object found!!!

There was a strange object found on the field outside the Reception Class today. The grass was all black and scorched and in a big hole in the middle was a mysterious object. The object was shiny and silver but looked like a rock. It had strange wires sticking out of the side of it. The children in Recepetion class all had a good look at it and thought about what it might be and where it might be from. The children decided that it must be from space as there are no rocks like that on our planet. Some suggested that it might be a moon rock that had fallen from the moon last night. Someone also suggested that spacemen may have dropped it from their spaceship. We will need to find out all about space and the moon inorder to work out what it might be.

This week (3rd Feb)

Reception class have been busy bees this week. We started to think about vets and how they are a bit like doctors but they look after animals. This led us on to thinking about animals and what we knew about them. The children started to consider if they could match baby animals to their adult counterparts, which was fascinating, though some of the children found frogs/tadpoles a little confusing! We also looked at the similarities and differences between animals, deciding which animals were the best for certain jobs. We decided that a dog would make a good pet as it is cuddly and soft, but a shark would not be a good pet as it might eat you!

Another key area this week has been addition. We began to look at the language of addition and how we can record that by writing a number sentence. It is only early days but the children are showing a lot of promise

Police

We also enjoyed a visit from a police officer. PC Greenwood visited us from Killingbeck Police Station. She told us all about being a police officer and we asked lots of questions. She showed us her handcuffs and her notebook and torch. The children all enjoyed trying on her helmet. We made handcuffs out of card and decided to make our own police station!

Nurses.

We recently had a visit from a nurse, to tell us all about people who help us. We enjoyed asking questions and weighing and measuring each other. We decided to turn our role play area into a hospital.

People Who help us

Our Current topic is People who help us and we have been having a fantastic time finding out about different people, both here in school and within the community. We had a visit from a nurse, who came to talk about working in a hospital. The children then decided that we should turn the role-play area into a hospital. It has been lots of fun dressing up as doctors and nurses, healing our fellow classmates. We have also discussed medicines and how we use them, considering how people may need medicines, but how dangerous they can be if not used proerly. The children all decided that only adults should give out medicine and they should be kept up high, out of reach of children.
